The best fantasy football punishments, and the one nobody forgets.
Every league needs stakes. The punishment is what makes week 14 matter for the teams at the bottom. Here are the ones that work, and how to make sure the loser actually goes through with it.
Punishments that work
- The billboard: last place goes up on a real digital billboard in your city for a week, with their photo and record. The league chips in and the loser signs the contract in August.
- The diss track: the league writes a song about the loser’s season and plays it at the draft.
- The trophy of shame: a terrible trophy they keep on display all year.
- The waffle house challenge: they stay until they’ve eaten their way out.
- The draft-day outfit: they show up to next year’s draft in a costume the league picks.
- The SAT retake: they take a practice test and post the score.
- The yearbook photo: a professional portrait in whatever the league chooses.
How to make it stick
- Decide it before the draft, not after week 10.
- Get everyone to sign. Loserboard’s Shame Contract has every manager sign before the season.
- Make it public. A punishment the whole town sees beats one that happens in a group chat.
- Collect the money early, so nobody bails in December.
Why the billboard wins
It’s the only punishment the loser’s coworkers, neighbors and mom will see. It costs the league about $25 a person in a 12-team league, it makes local news more often than you’d think, and it’s the one that gets retold at every draft for a decade.

Questions
How much does a fantasy billboard cost?
A Digital Week on Loserboard is $299. Split across a 12-team league, that’s about $25 each, or the loser pays more with a Shame Pass.
When should the league sign up?
Before the season, ideally at the draft. Once last place is locked, the loser picks the photo and we clear the copy with the board operator.
Can the loser refuse?
They signed the Shame Contract. That’s the point.
